Things To Do
Beach - Nicknamed ‘The Bu’ by locals, Malibu stretches 51km along the Pacific, its coastline offering many beautiful sandy beaches to stroll along including Carbon Beach on which the property is located. For beach activities, head to the nearby Zuma Beach which offers every activity imaginable including surfing, boogie boarding, volleyball and fishing. Surfrider Beach is considered to have some of the world’s most perfect waves - if you’ve never caught a wave before, how about a surfing lesson with Malibu Surf?
Hikes - Head a short distance inland to go hiking on trails through Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area’s hills and deep canyons filled with wildflowers and waterfalls. The Solstice Canyon is a favourite destination.
Golf - There are six golf courses located within easy reach of Malibu, including Los Robles Greens, Calabasas Country Club and the 18-hole Westlake Golf Course, which is also home to a night-lighted driving range.
Fishing and Whale Watching - Book a trip out on the ocean to try your hand at fishing (for striped bass, halibut and surfperch) or spotting whales and sea lions. Plenty of companies offer these excursions and charters, such as Malibu Coastal Adventures.
Spa - Enjoy a yoga session, unwind during a hot stone massage or try out an anti-aging facial, for him or her, at the Veronica Malibu Skin & Body Center at the nearby Malibu Beach Inn, Carbon Beach.
Shopping - Malibu Country Mart and Malibu Lumber Yard, two adjacent upscale retail centers, are really close by and will cater to all your shopping needs; from designer boutiques and brands such as Ted Baker to art galleries, restaurants, coffee shops, fitness centers, a spa and an acupuncturist.
Restaurants - The town has many fine places to dine, including the renowned Nobu Malibu, serving Japanese cuisine and situated a short 15-minute stroll from the beach. For something more casual, there’s the oceanfront Carbon Beach Club Restaurant at boutique Malibu Beach Inn which serves fresh seafood and steaks. The Farm café and restaurant on Malibu Pier are both popular, too.
Wine Tasting - The Malibu Wine Safari takes you through a maze of beautiful vineyards in the Malibu Mountains, sampling drinking wines from Bisous to Zinfandel, all created from grapes grown locally.
Families - The 1,000-acre Saddlerock Ranch is close by and is home to zebras, camels, alpacas, bison and ‘Stanley the Giraffe’ as well as a vineyard.
Couples - Point Dume, a small quiet reserve at Malibu’s north end, provides an ideal spot from which to spot grey whales or admire the sunset.
